The Best Week of the Year! So far…
Two days ago I woke up in a cold sweat… My head was spinning, and I still had the taste of cheap whiskey and fine cigar on my lips. As I sat up in bed, I scratched my head wondering just how I got there, and in doing so, I noticed something written in the palm of my left hand… A phone number! Sweeeeet! I grabbed for my glasses with my other hand and I see yet another phone number! Even Sweeeeter! haha With a big grin, I laid my head back down and started reflecting on what a truly great night, or better yet, great week I just experienced.
It all started with a Bachelor Party.
This post can be considered a tribute to my GREAT friend and confidant, Trevor Nash-Keller.
Trevor lived a great life and has been an excellent wingman to everyone that knew him, but sadly to say, we lost Trevor forevor on June 17th, 2011 as he fell victim to the heinous act of marriage… Okay, all jokes aside, Trevor found a great girl, and I’m truly happy for them.
I had the privilege of planning his bachelor party, and although I may have ran into some small road bumps in the planning, (like Mr.T rejecting my appearance proposal, and the party bus cancelling last minute) I think it’s safe to say everything went smoothly and we all had a seriously memorable experience.
Pictured above was our jump crew: [ Instructor Jim, Paul Binfet, Wyatt Nash-Keller, Trevor Nash-Keller, Tyler Ulrich, & Mike Ulrich ] Trev was “taking the plunge”, so in true bachelor spirit we metaphorically took the plunge with him. If you have not jumped out of a perfectly good airplane yet, I highly recommend doing so, as it was easily the biggest adrenaline rush of my life (and I’ve had ALOT of near death experiences.. lol).
Skydiving officially set the mood for the rest of the night. We all made it back to homebase alive, and I did not have to explain to Megan that I inadvertently killed her fiance… Whew!!!
Shortly after the jump, about a dozen other close friends (or should I say skydive-less wimps?) arrived while we waited for our backup stretch limo & the poor soul driver that had no idea what he was in for. We did some booze cruizin and bar hopping before hitting the casino. Unfortunately, we didn’t last very long at the casino, as a couple wild crew members (will remain nameless), happened to get the whole bachelor party personally escorted outside. We then enjoyed more cruizin, more bars, more cruizin, a couple scene reenactments from the 1985 classic movie Teen Wolf (we had to take advantage of the moon roofs!), and more bars. Our time ran out at 2 AM when the bars closed their doors, so we moved the party to Trev’s house and managed to have an even better time there.. It got somewhat fuzzy, but I do remember alot of drum solo’s in the kitchen (sorry.. inside joke) and stumbling over countless lifeless body’s scattered threw-out the house. It was the bachelor party of all bachelor party’s and I’m glad to say it was for my buddy Trev. The Hangover movie had nothing on us, well.. besides Mike Tyson.
The rest of the week was full of good spirits, good friends, and anticipation for the wedding. I was able to reconnect with a lot of long lost friends and I honestly cannot remember one bumber moment the whole week long. Twenty dollar Tetris matches, wifi bar booth brainstorming sessions, great Brazilian cuisine, and even those long drawn out family photo ops (where everyone and their dog takes a picture) managed to be the highlights, not because of the activity, but because of the people I was surrounded with.
D Day approached before we knew it and I proudly stood on the alter while my friend said his vows. I have had that honor twice before at my 2 wonderfull sisters weddings, and now someone I consider a brother was having his day as well. You can call me a sentimental fool, but few things in life can match the feeling of standing beside someone as they commit themselves to their soulmate. The wedding and reception were storybook. The bride was beautiful and the groom never looked so happy. Another great friend of mine (Mike from MJU Entertainment), provided the music and entertainment, so I even wiggled my way out to the dance floor to shake it a bit – very rarely does that happen, so I have to give Mike some props on a job well done. To Trev and Meg, if your reading this from your ocean front Hawaiian honeymoon villa (you lucky shits), thank you for letting me be a part of your wedding, in my opinion it was perfect, and I couldn’t be happier for the both of you! I wish you lots of luck, love, and happiness in the future! You both deserve it.
When it all comes down to it, we sometimes tend to focus on transitory pleasures (those silly things that we think matter, like work, money, social status, or even having the newest baddest phone on the market), but this last week has helped me see whats really important in life – Great Friends, Great Family, Laughing, Love, and Living life for the present, not the past nor the future. We are all seriously lucky to be alive… I encourage you all to open your eyes and hearts to let the good stuff in, and live your life like I have lived this past week.

I need to throw a B party for my bro this summer and I am going to look into skydiving as well. Any tips on jump preparation?

Austin,
well… I would first recommend getting a good group of friends together that can, first afford it… (I think our first jump cost us over $300 each if I remember right) and more importantly, guys that will not chicken out last minute.. haha..
Also, the place we went provided someone to tape the free fall from a 3rd person perspective, or video from a hand held camera strapped to your arm (for an additional fee of coarse).. Everyone in our crew that got video was very excited with the end result and those videos got shared ALOT on facebook, twitter, etc.. so pay the extra $$ for some video footage of your first jump, its worth it if you ask me..
The last thing I would recommend is… have a 12 pack of beer on ice waiting in your vehicle and maybe some good stogies for an after jump celebration.. Me and my buddies are planning on going again after winter and hope to make it an annual event.. ohhh also, wear some comfortable light clothing and shoes… you don’t want a collar or loose fabric slapping you in the face the whole way down like me.. haha
Have fun and come back here after the jump to share the adventure!

Thanks. Very cool I was notified you replied. My brother was not interested in the skydive idea after all. I know this is off topic but do you know anything about game servers?
